How are you supposed to interpreit Tarot Cards?

Tarot cards don't come right out and tell you your predicted future, so how do you interpreit what cards, such as the High Pristess mean when you get them?

The Tarot is a deck of cards that originated over 500 years ago in northern Italy. Although the Tarot was first used in a game called Triumphs, it was quickly adopted as a tool for divination, and popularized by occult societies such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. The early Tarot symbolism was deeply rooted in Medieval and Renaissance Europe, but over the centuries it has grown to incorporate everything from Astrology and Kabbalah to Runes (which predate the Tarot by 1000 years) and the I Ching (which predates the Tarot by 2500 years). Today, the Tarot is far and away the most popular tool for spiritual introspection in the West.





Tarot readings are arrangements of cards drawn from a shuffled deck. The layout of the cards is known as a spread, and determines what each card refers to. For example, the Two Paths spread is used to understand an upcoming decision, and hence it uses cards to represent the different options and their outcomes.


Decks: Tarot decks consist of 78 cards. 22 of the cards are major arcana (trumps), such as The Lovers, The Fool, The Pope, and The World. The remaining 56 cards are minor arcana divided into 4 suites of 14 cards each. The suites are Swords, Cups, Wands (sometimes called Rods or Staves), and Pentacles (sometimes called Coins or Discs). Although the traditional meanings of the cards are the same regardless of the specific deck used, the imagery and language associated with each deck tends to make it particularly useful for some types of readings. For example, many of our visitors find the Renaissance Tarot particularly good at questions of passion, mastery, and reason.





Reversals: About half of the cards in a reading are drawn reversed (upside down), which either negates or inverts their meaning. For example, Death upright means "change", but Death reversed means "stagnation".

As one person mentioned in their post a lot of it is about *your* intuition, there's really no magic in the cards (satanic or otherwise). It all comes from you. Traditionally the High Priestess is associated with feminine energy, mystery, and intuition. It's hard to say much else without knowing about what you asked and what other cards were pulled.

Reply:In addition to the Wikki article, there is speculation that the tarot cards were used as a teaching mechanism for certain illegal believe systems. I'm unsure if this theory has any evidence to support it.





Essentially though most, if not all, methods of divining the future have been proven wrong over and over again.

The water is there to keep your throat from drying out - the large pinch of salt is for any interpretation of Tarot.

Reply:Tarot cards are included in the occult. It is opening an avenue for Satan to have access to us. God says that the just shall live by faith , unfortunately, Satan knowing this will satisfy our curiosity by ways of fortune tellers. It is a system that believers in God stay far away from.

Reply:They are largely a facilitator. The information comes from one's own psyche, so interpretations will be different to different people. Sometimes I use book definitions, but largely I let the cards do the talking. I lay out a spread, and look at the cards while pictures, and scenes form in my mind. I've found this to be much more accurate, but not everyone can do it this way.





DBYTZ- that is absolutely untrue. What you obviously mean is you've never read any evidence of psychic ablility in action. Look up the government's remote viewing projects of the 70's and 80's. The results there speak for themselves. Many times the things the were instructed to see were not only in a different location, but in a different time.

Reply:they don't do anything, how can 5 bits of cardboard tell you the future in anyway shape or form, basically all physic rubbish is well rubbish none of it is true, and i know because i have been there, i have 'acted' the part of a medium, told everyone it was fake and i never had any contact the whole thing was a joke, and yet they all still said i had 'powers' if you want to believe it fine, i can't stop you, but trust me, therer is no such thing
Reply:you have to study them, learn their meanings, internalize them. read as many books about tarot as you can, not just the little booklet you get with the cards untill you feel you know the card very intimately.


then move on to the next card... it's a long process of learning what the tarot means, but if you got the high priestess as your first card, it could mean you're on the right path.

Reply:I have experienced with tarot cards and there is no exact way to read them. You interpret them the way you want and make up your own story with the words that each card represents.





The whole point of tarot cards is to tell a believable story and then watch a persons reaction to the things you mention. if they agree or understand that thats in their life then u play on it and build that story from what you just mentioned.

There are various traditional meanings for the cards and there are others who claim that the cards help them with their "psychic" abilities. In reality, no matter what you say, your mark will believe you if they are prone to do so. There is a skill called "cold reading" where you can make your mark think you are really psychic when you are just guessing and getting him to feed you info.
