Tarot cards?

I just bought a deck of tarot cards. Since I just got them I am focusing on the Minor Arcana and I am working on learning about the Cups. Would anybody know exactly how you are supposed to do a reading? Does the person close their eyes and randomly pick a card from a deck or what? If anybody knows please inform me.

Tarot cards?
I teach Tarot and the way I see it is ..

Whatever you feel comfortable doing is how you should work

It doesn't matter what method of shuffling the cards we use and it doesn't matter how we select the cards or how we turn them face up on the table. Our Subconscious Mind is in control and brings to each position in the spread we're using just the right card to give us the correct answer.

But this happens only if we and our Subconscious Mind are in full agreement as to how the cards will be shuffled, cut, selected and turned. Our Subconscious Mind remembers the definitions and instructions we've given it. It never makes a mistake. So, if we follow our own directions, our Subconscious Mind will always give us the correct answer.

Problems arise when we do something different than what we've told our Subconscious Mind we were going to do. When we shuffle the cards differently, or cut the cards differently, or select the cards differently, or even turn them differently that what we said we were going to do, we mess up the reading. We get the wrong card in the wrong place at the wrong time and we give our client the wrong information and bad advice.

No problems arise when we do exactly what we said we were going to do. Our Subconscious Mind gives us the right card in the right position at the right time to give our clients the right answers and good advice. The secret to doing good tarot readings has more to do with how well we communicate with our Subconscious Mind and follow our own directions than it has with the definitions we decide to use with our tarot deck. Subconsciousness always follows our directions and never makes a mistake.

One of the best times to communicate with our Subconscious Mind is when our body is in a very calm and peaceful state. If we take the time to write down what we wish to communicate to our Subconscious Mind, then enter a relaxed state and read these things to our Subconscious Mind, our Subconscious Mind will always remember. Now all we have to do is remember what we told our Subconscious Mind.

The Secret to Using Tarot Cards is to:

1. Select a tarot deck you like and respect, the one you want to use

2. Take care of this deck according to the rituals you decide to use

3. Shuffle this deck the way you decide to shuffle it

4. Cut the deck the way you want to cut it (if at all)

5. Use the spreads you want to use

6. Select the cards the way you want to select them

7. Turn the cards over the way you want to turn them over

Make these decisions and then inform your Subconscious Mind of these decisions. Your Subconscious Mind will always remember these instructions and will always follow them until you change the rules by changing these instructions. All you have to do is remember the rules yourself. Writing them down in a Tarot Journal is a good idea.

The Secret of Being a Good Tarot Reader is to:

1. Define the cards the way you want to define them with the key words, phrases or concepts you want to use

2. Tell your Subconscious Mind these definitions

3. Remember what definitions you told your Subconscious Mind

4. Writing them down in a Tarot Journal is a good idea

5. Decide if you're going to use reversals or whatever

6. Tell your Subconscious Mind these rules and definitions

7. Remembering what you told your Subconscious Mind is a good idea

8. Writing these down in a Tarot Journal is a good idea

9. Practice doing readings as much as you can

Reply:i use tarot cards every once in a while. there's the past, present, future spread. you oshuffle, cut the deck if you wish to, and then pull a three cards (past, present, future respectively). there's a site i can give you for meanings of the cards:http://www.learntarot.com/

and there's a site for spreads:http://www.tarotadvisor.com/tarot-spread...

tarot cards are used to see situations and personla goals you focus on most in different perspectives, not to decide your fate. when doing a reading it is best to see each meaning as a form of advice or guidance.
Reply:With my guidance card things, I'm told that I have to shuffle it, then stop when it feels right. The you lift three cards off the top of the deck in sequence and the first shows your past, second present and third your future.

Mine are godess guidance cards though, maybe they are different. I doubt it, in my booklet it says ways to do it are very flexible.
Reply:The spread that I usually is use was developed by the Golden Dawn. It's called the Opening of the Key. I've included a link so you can see how it works. It's very intricate, but worth the practice. It also gives you excellent practice with your correspondences and how they all interact. I highly recommend it.
Reply:Look at this web site. It will tell you everything you need go know.

Reply:I'd look online and check out several different spreads. The cards you bought should have a booklet that tells you the basic meanings of the cards and give you a few different spreads to work with. The celtic cross is probably the most common spread. If you check online I'm sure you can find many other different spreads.

First if you are brand new to tarot cards I would not focus on a specific suit and work with all of the cards together.

The way I use my cards is I let them fall out of the box (turn it up side down and dump them out) I spread them around on the surface (table, floor, etc) make sure they are all face down then shuffle them. The purpose of this exercise is to ground the cards and to remove any residual energy from previous readings.

Shuffling them lets your energy (or the energy of the questionaire) flow through the cards. In theory it is not the cards that have power to see into one's life, rather one is using their own energy to read into themselves, the cards are merely tools of doing so. If you are doing a reading for someone else, they should be the one's who are shuffling the deck as it is their energy you are trying to read.

What I do is I just shuffle them until I'm practically in a meditative state - just very calm and relaxed. Then almost like a beep from a microwave when its done cooking, a trigger goes off in my mind that just tells me I'm done shuffling, the cards have read enough of my energy and I can continue.

When the cards are ready I use a specific spread (for example the celtic cross: Go to the web site I listed as my source

If you see that web site notice that the position of each card within the spread has its own meaning. And each card has a specific meaning within its give location. That is why actually reading tarot cards take years of practice to be really good at.

There are other spreads you can use. You do not even have to use a spread. Sometimes when I am handling the cards, like when I dump them out and spread them around, a card will fall to the side or way from the others. To me that card has a special meaning and so I will stop what I am doing and read its oracle text and figure what meaning it has to me.

Aside from that another thing I do is I will ground the cards shuffle them (as mentioned) then I will just sit with them in my hand and just close my eyes and meditate. Clear my mind of all thoughts and just focus on the tarot cards and a question I have in my mind. Then I will draw a card and read it (after awhile you just learn to remember what they mean) then I will keep on drawing cards until I feel I have gotten the answer I need to here.

Another spread I do (I just made it up I didn't read about it or anything - it is ok to make up your own spreads) is I do my thing to get the cards ready then I make three piles for three different stacks. The first represents the past, the second is the present and the third is the future. For each stack I draw 3, 5, 7, or 13 cards, depending on my question and how thorough of an answer I want. The top card on each stack represents aspects closest to you within time and space. In other words the top card of the "past" pile represents your inmmediate past whereas the bottom card represents the distant past. And this is the same for each stack.

* note when asking the cards questions if you ask silly questions, you'll get silly answers. It is best to treat the cards seriously and ask only serious questions. Some believe you can actually ruin the effectiveness of a tarot deck if you only ask it bogus, stupid, or unanswerable questions. It is important you think about your question before asking. Think it through and truely consider your true intentions.

The cards work. Not because they are magickal, but because they are mediums into our own minds. If you ask serious questions any card you draw will have a meaning, even if it seems insignificant to start.
Reply:please throw them away they only attract evil spirits that will control your life
