Is learning to do Tarot cards evil?

I just bought a few books on the Tarot, and after I study some, I am planning on buying a deck (or two) and getting started. I'm just curious, are these cards really evil? My Christian friends and family say they are. However, I was intrigued by a friend's Rider-Waite deck, and I fell in love with them. The imagery on the cards, the colors, everything just felt so "spiritual" to me, and since the day she let me see them, I have wanted some and first, to learn how to use them. But, my holy rolling aunts and cousins say I wll be inviting evil (I assume, negative energies) into my home and life by using them.

Confused?

Is learning to do Tarot cards evil?
Having used many decks before, and being a pagan for over 2 years, i can say that they are far from evil. they have helped me save my family and my life quite a few times, and have even helped me understand people and they fears more than I ever have.

They are far from evil. anyone who thinks they bring up demons and spirits is highly mistaken- there are no demons involved.
Reply:Well, why would you think they are evil in the 1st place?

If you have your convictions than follow your heart and mind. What works for someone else might not work for you. Report Abuse

Reply:Tarot cards: an interesting item, most packs are different and depend on the producers/makers. Pictures are better with the more authentic packs. Most bookstores you can find descriptions and details on the subject. Most sets are fun packs- there is no religion attached to them - its a past time. Nothing evil at all.
Reply:Not evil, but not wise.

You should leave them alone. By fooling with them at all, you are inviting meddlesome (read: evil) spirits to jack around with your life.

Tarot cards, ouija boards, etc. are best avoided, and kept out of your home.

Namaste.
Reply:Play poker with them, they might be of some use that way.
Reply:No.
Reply:Yes, you are inviting evil spirits to come in. Of course the cards intrigued you because that is how the enemy tries to get to us, by things that draw our attention away form what is right. Yes, you felt the evil spritual affect the cards have, listen to your family.
Reply:Using Tarot cards is not unlike using a Ouija board. You are attempting to tap into supernatural advice.

Personally, I don't think either is evil but I also don't believe that either has much more power than the user gives them. If you expect bad, bad will happen. Expect good things and you will most like get good things.

If you like them, keep them. We collect different tarot decks. Some are quite beautiful.
Reply:I have my tarot card read to me by my good friend. My friend encouraged me to learn it and am trying my best - I got a gift of a deck and a small book about tarot.

It struck me when you said spiritual - tarot could really be made as a spiritual guide. My friend told me not to learn tarot for commercial use but as a tool in developing my spirituality. That, I am still on the process of developing. These tarots come with it spiritual energy - the energy that you complement with your own spirituality as well. it is up to you what to make use of them, I believe in the law of Action/Karma, good actions reap good rewards.

Christians will definitely have different view about it but it is all up to you what you consider best or evil for you.
Reply:explain to your holy rolling aunts and cousins that the standard 52 card deck is based FROM the tarot...
Reply:Your profile scares me %26lt;hides%26gt;

Donno, however you want to 'do' Tarot, try to read in Garden

Reply:try some angel cards they will feel better and you will not feel so out of it

hayhouse has great ones.. NO they are not evil

Tarot cards are not a oracle from some demon or any thing like that however your confussion on the whole situation might cause you to in fact bring in the negative.
Reply:They really are enticing, aren't they. Such a cool idea. However, it is evil.

II Corinthians 11:14 - satan disguises himself as an angel of light

Deuteronomy 18:9-12 says that people who use divination (fortune telling), observers of times (zodiac), are enchanters, witches, charmers, "consulters with familiar spirits" (channeling/seances/Ouiji), wizards, necromancers are abominations unto the Lord
Reply:Well, obviously, most Christians would say it's evil because it's a Pagan practice and everything Pagan tends to get the thumbs down in the Christian community.. putting it lightly. Personally, I don't think it's evil at all. But everything depends on your intentions. If that's what's calling to you, go for it but do so carefully. See how it goes. And you invite what you give away. Do it with positive intentions and for good reasons and I think you should be just fine. Granted, I am not really religious or spiritual yet. Although, I am getting the desire to be ^_^.

Good luck!
Reply:more made up superstitious mumbo jumbo.

be careful else the tooth fairy will turn nasty and gobble you all up for breakfast.. ngnngggg munch ngggn ngngg!
Reply:It's only evil if you are a christian and believe what the bible says. They not evil, just a bot of fun.
Reply:no they arent evil at all. they have no meaning what soever its just fiction just like the bible.
Reply:No, the cards are not evil. No negatives forces are at work. That is just one way your aunts are trying to control you. If you can make someone believe something or someone is evil, then you can control them.

Depending on which decide you buy there is a lot of biblical images on them especially in the Rider Waite deck.

Reply:I have been reading Tarot for years %26amp; have many decks, nothing 'eveil' has happened to me.

The Rider Waite deck is a great place to start, I know you will enjoy them. Pls don't listen to your Aunt etc.
Reply:there is nothing evil about tarot cards hun...they are a form of spirituality, and if you choose to use them then so be it...th people whom tell you they are evil obviosly follow there own spiritual path and should leave you alone to follow yours
Reply:No, Tarot cards will not spread Evil, but they won't do you any good either! lolol!

To get some real mileage out of Tarot cards, learn the card-games played with this traditional style deck:
Reply:I have a bit of a different take on the Tarot than most people. I'm Pagan and I do read the cards. However, I see them as a tool to see what is going on in your life, not an infallible indicator of your future. The gist of the Tarot is, based on what is going on right now, this is what COULD happen. The real trick of it, though, is not just reading what you want to see in the cards. I find the Tarot useful for pointing out things to me that perhaps I'd rather not admit about myself or my situation. Being honest with yourself is the most important thing. The Tarot can be very useful in showing you where you are making mistakes and what you can do to get back on track -- if you will admit it. To me, this is the value of the Tarot.
Reply:Meh, according to the book of Mormon, The darkness of a black persons skin is due to the sins they have committed (Stupidity is a common theme in these books people are supposed to live their lives by). Every religion is different and inflicts equally stupid restrictions on their followers. Ignore religious crap, Superstition is not my thing, but I say if you like tarot cards, go for it. Interesting enough hobby.
Reply:They're just cards. I have a Celtic Dragon set, and a Fairy Wicca set.

This is the Celtic Dragon Tarot set I have. The pictures on the net don't remotely do the deck justice. The pictures are simply amazing.
