What do you think of my conclusion about the Tarot cards ?

I have asked many people whether they believe in it or not and most of them do not believe in it because they think that there is no evidence or scientific proof of telling the future because it is just a randomized set of printed cards. I think that there is no right or wrong answer to this question. In my opinion, I believe in it because if it wasn’t true then why was it made ?

Those of you who believe in it ..please explain to me why you believe it . Thank you

What do you think of my conclusion about the Tarot cards ?
The tarot are not just random pictures. In there history they have been a part of pretty much every religious culture stretching from the middle east to the northern reaches of europe. The imagery and messages of those varied cultures been picked up along the way. Because they have changed hands however, only the common truths of these different cultures have survived in the imagery. The final product is a set of cards that dipicts a unified view of the human condition.

When we look at these pictures we make something from them by linking the common emotions and theories within the cards to our personal view of our present situation. In this case Tarot divination is simply art appreciation - be it an appreciation of spiritual and emotional matters. Tarot cards can be used as an aid for a person to discover their personal truth by drawing on their subconsious.
Reply:Tarot cards were made because people THOUGHT they were true. Just as people used to THINK that the earth was flat or THOUGHT that the sun orbited the earth. Doesn't make it true. If that is your reason for believing it to be true, you need to examine your logic because that's ridiculous.

People who have seen 'evidence' of predictions are victims of self-fulfilling prophecies - they are more likely to act in a way that makes that prediction true after hearing it than if they hadn't. They are also more likely to interpret events as confirming the prediction, even if they are ambiguous.

Tarot cards could have been made as tradition and a way for people to make money.

I believe in it because I have seen evidence of tarot cards being correct, and returning customers for my mother being very pleased. This could, of course, be chance. My mother doesn't practise cold reading and reads the cards by the book.

I believe in tarot cards up to a point - I wont be definitive on everything.
Reply:Hello Mari

I have studied them for over 20 years, run a course, workshops %26amp; have an online forum, so I believe in them!

They work in many ways, via the subconscous mind %26amp; as a clairvoyant tool.

They are wonderful for personal, spiritual %26amp; psychic growth.

Reply:I read tarot cards too. When I started, it was just because 'reading the future from cards? hahaha' and I had to try very hard to suspend my disbelief when picking the cards, since they required trust, and I wanted to do it properly if I wanted to show it's bull.

It's fact that I found a lot of things from the past of the friends I read for, that I didn't know and that they hadn't wanted to share. If someone came back later, if they wanted the same question, the cards would say the same thing. I even guessed test quesions for a friend once (vaguely, we only realised the very very obvious interpretations after her exam).

Coincidence? It's first hand experience, and it shook me out of my atheism. I was eery, couldn't have known all that stuff, I couldn't have guessed it either. It couldn't have come from the Christian God either, because he saw reading the future as a sin. So I started my spiritual journey.

Now I know a lot more.

About the images: the symbolism on the cards is very carefully chosen, it interrelates to everything (spiritually speaking) in existence, existence and even the allegoric creation.

I, for once, never ask questions before started my interpretation or even ask for money.
Reply:Tarot Cards are tools.

they do nothing on their own.... its a tool to allow one to order and draw out information already within them, and to allow their higher self and similar forces a medium with which to communicate indirectly.

nothing that tarot cards enables one to do, cannot be learned to do directly... its just easier with the tools.

IMO, they are a sort of "flash cards" for primitive psychology.

By this i mean that each card represents an archetype of human behaviour, or personality type, or a social situation, etc. The meaning of each of the cards is both focussed and vague at the same time: they each say something quite specific, but this meaning can very easily be generalised because of the amount of symbolism present in the image.

For example - the Death card can mean death, but this also carries implications of rebirth. It can mean a literal death of a person, but it could also mean the ending of something (a project, a relationship, a point-of-view, etc.). The other figures in the card (the king, the girl, etc.) can represent different ways people react to such a situation, but (obviously) don't tell you which one *you* are. Combined with the overlapping or opposing meanings of other cards in the spread, this leads to a "story" which can, with only minimal effort, be applied to any situation in anybody's life.

And the beauty of it is that the cards' meanings, as "snapshots" of a typical life are also "true", because everyone will find themselves in the appropriate situation at some point.

So - I do NOT believe that the cards predict the future (and, like your friends point out, no testing of their accuracy has ever borne out that they do), but what they DO do is allow someone to think about aspects of their lives in a slightly more objective way (after all - it's not them that is saying they have to leave their boyfriend, it is the cards), and to provide a mechanism for putting things into context and making a more impartial decision.

It would be a bit like a therapist asking you how you feel about something. If you've never actually thought about how you actually feel about it, then this is a very useful question in allowing you to rw-work your priorities and plans. A Tarot reading basically does the same thing.
